Myanmar
Bordered by India, China, Thailand, Laos, and Bangladesh, and with the Andaman Sea to the south, Myanmar remains a complex country spread across a widely varying landscape.
With the concept design of our first-generation HKS technology completed in late 2019, the development of a full-scale 200kW HKS.r demonstration unit was funded by our first successful Innovate UK Energy Catalyst grant in 2020.
At the time, with a democratic government in place, thoughwith energy poverty still at above 60% of the population, Myanmar presenteditself as the perfect country to develop our river power generation technology.
Despite the impact of COVID-19 hitting in March 2020, ourexcellent in-country links to project partners meant that the construction andfloat-out of our HKS.r demonstrator was completed on-schedule in December 2021.
Originally destined for relocation to a remote villagelocation, sadly the political events of February 2021 in Myanmar frustrated thefinal intended deployment of the HKS.r demonstrator. Since then however, theunit has been extensively tested at a range of river flow speeds at its currentlocation in Yangon, proving-out the power generation curve, and providing acomprehensive validation of the design.
