River Power
Access to Energy
Almost a tenth of the world’s population has no access to electricity, limiting essential access to healthcare, education and impacting livelihoods.
For governments of the countries in which these people live, it is a huge problem which they need to solve in a way that is both renewable and affordable.
With many off-grid communities located near rivers, our HKS.r technology provides a source of cheap and reliable baseload power to help end energy poverty, without impacting the environment.
Off-grid communities
We are working alongside governments and NGOs to develop stand-alone, decentralised energy projects in the developing and developed worlds. From island villages in the Mekong, to distilleries in Speyside, our HKS technology has the potential to bring real change to communities, without impacting the environment.

Nepal is a country of adventure, spirituality and breathtaking natural beauty. Yet around 10% of its population does not have access to electricity. Our pilot project is changing that. Based in the western Karnali Province of the country, it will provide power to over 100 families currently living off-grid.
