FITS TECHNOLOGY

Achelous Energy’s Floating Instream Tidal and Solar (“FITS”) platform is a moored trimaran floating unit, which houses two Vertical Axis Turbines for harnessing river flows.

During power production, these turbines are completely submerged underwater, and are driven round by the constant flow of water through them.

The device also incorporates a solar deck for photovoltaic power generation, making it unique in the river hydrokinetic market.

Power conditioning, Internet-of-Things (IOT) control and monitoring equipment is all housed onboard each FITS unit, providing grid quality power and a truly plug-and-play solution to the end customer.

5 REASONS WHY FITS IS THE FUTURE

AE_number1

BASELOAD

Constant river flows mean that the FITS can produce genuine baseload power, unlike pure solar or wind generation, or oceanic systems which rely on cyclic tides

DESIGN

Vertical Axis Turbine (VAT) technology optimises the  FITS for shallow river deployments. It also allows for all electrical equipment to be housed above the water, reducing failures and facilitating maintenance.

ENVIRONMENT

The FITS device is environmentally non-invasive.  It requires no dams or large infrastructure such as that required by traditional hydropower, and a fraction of the land usage needed by onshore solar and wind farms

ECONOMIC

The combination of unique, patented turbine design with easily available off-the-shelf electrical generation equipment, makes FITS low cost to build, and allows a highly-competitive Levelised Cost of Energy right from the start of life

SCALABLE

To make a meaningful impact on climate change, we need to be addressing energy markets of all sizes.  FITS has been specifically designed as a scalable system, for platform sizes of 20kW all the way up to 500kW+
