River Power
River power:
A truly global resource
Villages and towns have been positioned near rivers since ancient times, providing crucial resources including drinking water, transport routes and power. Today it is estimated that over half of us live within three kilometres of a river.
Dam-based hydropower accounts for 50% of the world’s renewable energy generation. The problem? It has a high impact on the river, affecting surrounding habitats, ecosystems and wildlife, and isn't able to generate constant, uninterrupted power.
Hydrokinetic power plants work differently. They use the natural flow of water to generate power without the need for dams. This means no damage to wildlife or ecosystems; and for the many rivers that flow constantly, this also means 24/7 power generation.
Multi-platform energy farms, providing industrial scale power (5-50MW+) to commercial users.
Single platform installations, meeting the smaller scale power demands of remote and off-grid energy users.
